WW I Airplanes

While we were in New Zealand we visited the airplane museum in Blenheim. This is partially owned by Peter Jackson and has an extensive collection of flyable WWI airplanes as well as some amazing exhibits and collections.

Holy cow.

Workshop.

This NZ pilot had to stand on the wing to push the flaps down while he piloted his aircraft in for a crash landing, which he survived.

They have three of these because, of course they do.
The diorama of the Red Baron's plane being looted by Australian troops for trophies.

Apparently it was not long ago that these could be seen all over New Zealand.
If you are in the area it is well worth the trip. There's a lot to see and the price is reasonable. There was an airshow elsewhere the day we were there so several planes were not on site. If you can go on a day when they are flying it is supposed to be spectacular.
